Tohunga Tumāu.

On 1 July 2021 an all-star cast of Maori chefs gathered for the first time to present a menu totally indigenous to Aotearoa, heralding in Puanga Matariki.

The purpose of this event run in conjunction with Kauta Ltd, was to showcase the rich depth of flavour and manaakitanga (hospitality) of Aotearoa as well as the skills of our leading Maori chefs.

As well as our leading culinary talent serving up a six course menu, the evening will featured fine wines, musicians, and masters of ceremonies Miriama & Ward Kamo.

Participating chefs included: Rewi Spraggon, Grant Kitchen, Peter Gordon, Nancye Pirini, Karena & Kasey Bird, Rex Morgan, Joe McLeod and Anne Thorp.

This Puanga Matariki event is to be staged annually in different locations around Aotearoa. The next event will take place in 2022 Wellington.
